She had become accustomed to hearing that phrase.  Patience was virtuous, but not always the easiest things for the little heart of a BabyGirl to comprehend.  But more often than not, when Elliot told her to wait, there was a good reason and one which she would see the brilliance of in short order.

“Pampering” Penny –

Penny waved her fingers in front of the kitty’s face and the kitty batted at her hand with its ever-playful personality.  Elliot signaled left out of the motel parking lot, heading to the nail salon up the street.  After the events of that morning, Penny needed a little extra attention and … “pampering”.

Looking over at Elliot, she recalled the reason why she felt so wonderful just then and what he had done to bring her back from a state of mind which unraveled her into hysterical crying and near-anxiety panic:

Fast Times at the Monte Carlo

Penny sunk her teeth into her grilled cheese sandwich.  If allowed, she would’ve eaten grilled cheese for every meal.  It was the ideal food for her: buttered white bread with the crusts removed by Elliot and American cheese, toasted to melted perfection.  And to top it off, Elliot broke it up into bite-size pieces.  A dill pickle and a handful of potato chips completed her plate.

“Open,” he said softly, placing the necessities in his hand alongside her on the bed as he eased her down on her back, facing him.

She parted her lips and took the nipple in her mouth, gazing up at him as littleness began filling her eyes and her thoughts.

“That’s a good girl,” he said, taking the playing cards from her hand and placing them on the bed as he untied the sides of her bikini bottoms.

Elliot opened his eyes and blinked a few times, staring up at the ceiling.  He was hearing the strangest noise.  There was no way the noise he heard could possibly be coming from what makes that kind of noise.  He was convinced he was still sleeping.  It was the only logical explanation.

Bacon, Eggs & “Cheese!” –

Penny removed the pink pacifier from her mouth, setting it on the table in front of her.  Her pink summer dress and her matching pigtail holders made her the cutest lil girl in the restaurant.

For all her many different colored footed pajamas and her multitude of matching pacifiers and pigtail holders, she was happiest when wearing pink.  The same was true for her sun dresses.  And that morning, her happiness couldn’t have been clearer – in her eyes, in her composure and in her heart.

The “Streaks” of Sunrise

Penny threw her hands to the sky, trying to keep the sun out of her eyes while also keeping the skating helmet from falling off her head.  Elliot slid the light green elbow pads down each of her arms and then tended to the loose helmet strap under her chin.

“There we go,” he said, tightening the strap to the helmet before standing to his feet.  “Now, let me get a look at you to make sure you’re all together right.”

It was 6am on Sunday morning and the two of them had risen quite early, taking down a few English muffins to hold them over until breakfast.  The reason they got up so early?  It was to do a little activity which they just might get in a little trouble for.
